I am co-founder of Weave, a cooperative building person-centred, rights-governed digital infrastructure. The relationship between that project and this site is worth stating plainly. The writing here is analysis - of how shared infrastructure drifts toward enclosure, and of the conditions under which it need not. Weave is a working test of whether those conditions can be engineered: governance locked into legal structure, rights built into the foundations rather than appended, revenue from use rather than extraction. The analysis stands whether or not Weave succeeds, and the writing is not a case for the project. But it would be odd to spend years examining a problem and decline to attempt the alternative. The project lives at weave.coop.
